Daniel Horowitz, managing partner and design team manager at Apache Design-Build, brings a unique combination of knowledge and talents in both areas of architectural design and building construction. Born in South Africa, Dan moved to the United States when he was twelve and became involved in building houses as early as high school.
Dan started his design training in Florence, Italy, then continued on at the Bartlett School of Architecture in University College, London, completing his Bachelor of Arts with honors in Environmental Design and Art History at the University of Pennsylvania in 1989. He graduated first in his class with a Master of Architecture from the University of Pennsylvania in 1992 and was awarded the American Institute of Architects' Gold Medal for excellence in the study of architecture.
While still at University, Dan began working for world-renowned architects Robert Venturi and Denise Scott Brown in Philadelphia. During his five years with Venturi Scott Brown and Associates, he worked on several high-profile projects including a new regional government center in France, a new science building for the University of Pennsylvania, and a resort for employees of the Japanese Post Office in Japan. In pursuing his passion to incorporate and integrate the design and construction processes, Dan founded Apache Design-Build with fellow-builder Mark Canno in 1996.
